SUPPORTING ENGLISH LEARNERS
APOYANDO A NUESTROS ESTUDIANTES QUE APRENDEN INGLÉS

Dear parents,
In order to support students and families in English learning, LIEP is creating an Instructional YouTube Channel, meant to support students and families of all English Proficiency Levels and all grade levels. These instructional videos will be made to help families navigate our RPS community, Richmond City, and the United States as a whole during this global pandemic. Topics will include: General Greetings, Navigating RPS Food Distribution Centers, How to Pick Up Your RPS Learning Device, and Staying Happy and Healthy at Home. LIEP instructional videos will be available in English and Spanish, and captions in other low-frequency languages will also be made available. Additionally, iReady and Imagine Learning academic lessons in English and Spanish will be available to all ELs and an instructional video on how to use the website will accompany these lessons.

For your convenience, we have also included a suggested weekly schedule with several links to a video, lessons for English and math, activities and games to address the social and emotional learning of your child, virtual tours in Spanish and and a simple “I spy” game for fun! Step-by-step instructions are added to facilitate access and understanding of the content.

Para apoyar a los estudiantes y las familias en el aprendizaje del inglés, LIEP está creando un canal educativo de YouTube, destinado a apoyar a los estudiantes y las familias de todos los niveles de dominio del inglés y todos los niveles de grado. Estos videos educativos se realizarán para ayudar a las familias a navegar por nuestra comunidad de RPS, la ciudad de Richmond y los Estados Unidos en general durante esta pandemia mundial. Los temas incluirán: saludos generales, navegar por los centros de distribución de alimentos de RPS, cómo recoger su dispositivo de aprendizaje de RPS y mantenerse feliz y saludable en casa. Los videos educativos de LIEP estarán disponibles en inglés y español, y los subtítulos en otros idiomas también estarán disponibles. Además, las lecciones académicas de iReady e Imagine Learning estarán disponibles para todos los estudiantes EL y un video instructivo sobre cómo usar el sitio web acompañará estas lecciones.

Para su comodidad, también hemos incluido un horario semanal sugerido con varios enlaces a un video, lecciones de inglés y matemáticas, actividades y juegos para hablar acerca del aprendizaje social y emocional de su hijo/a, visitas virtuales en español y un simple juego "I spy" para diversión. Se agregan instrucciones paso a paso para facilitar el acceso y la comprensión del contenido.

How to use this @Home schedule:

Watch the video with your child/children. For week 1, we created a short video to introduce the LIEP team. Please email us if you have any questions or suggestions on what topics you would like to see! We would love to hear from you. [email protected] 
An iReady reading packet has been included here. Follow the link! The packet is divided in two parts and has 12 lessons. We are asking that your child completes one lesson per week. Please encourage your child to read every day! 
An iReady math packet has been included here. Follow the link! The packet is divided into 5 math concepts. We are asking that your child completes one concept per week. Please encourage your child to practice math every day! 
The well being of your child is our number one priority! To that end, we have included a link to a game, Digital Passport that deals with Social-emotional learning (SEL) skills. Examples: communication or self-control. Please let your child spend 10-15 minutes playing this game.  
Audible Books is offering access to free audio-books in different languages. We have included the link here. Please encourage your child to read every day! 
We have included various virtual museums tours for your enjoyment. Visit the Museo de Bellas Artes de Mexico without leaving your home. 
We have included various virtual National Parks tours for your enjoyment. Visit the Kenai Fjords National Park without leaving your home. Click and be transported to this beautiful national park in Alaska! 
For fun, play the “I spy” game using the suggested color. This game can be done in the house or in the backyard. This is a sample of how the game goes:

a. Select a red item in the house or yard. It could be a red sock! 
b. Your say, “I spy something “RED” 
c. Your child names an item, “a chair” 
d. You say, no (depending on what the item is). Try again! 
e. Your child goes again until he names the red item or gives up. 
f. Then it is your turn! Have fun!

Para diversión, juega al juego "I spy" con el color sugerido. Este juego se puede hacer en la casa o en el patio de su hogar. Esta es una muestra de cómo va el juego:

Instructions for parents: Click on your child’s grade to access the iReady reading packet. Each packet contains 12 lessons. We are asking that your child completes at least one lesson per week. These packets will also be available at the RPS Food distribution centers or the mobile sites.
